After a year-long civil unrest in Hong Kong, people adopted a new method of protesting: fighting within an illegitimate judicial system. The documentary profiles a politician, legal professionals and activists who risk breaking the law to rebuild a just society.
One of the protagonists in this film, Ted Hui, was known as the city’s most valiant lawmaker. He dropped a rotting plant to halt a legislative meeting over a controversial bill, and filed a private prosecution against the police’s abuse of power. These unusual tactics, however, led him to face nine criminal charges. The father of two decided to go into exile to continue his battle from overseas.
