Sleeping on a 30-hour-long train ride is terrible, but the way Chinese passengers handle it may surprise you. Crammed in a carriage where space is scarce and seats are hard, it is a challenge to stay patient and maintain the same sleeping posture throughout the ride. Passengers who hold tickets without reserved seats will even have to stand their entire journey.

Although known for their disregard of social etiquette, Chinese sleepers are not selfish people at all. They slept closely together, shared their seats with strangers. Trapped inside the same compartment for over a day, these passengers shared struggles and laughters. They are on the same boat, holding the same goal – to get somewhere in an affordable and efficient way. Despite harsh conditions, they have come together to support each other, just as in Chinese society where collective values prevail.
